It feels good to get back to my site after some time, especially on a nice day! For this journal I just observed things that I have not seen previously in my site and tried to document any changes that have occurred within my site that are note worthy.
Here is something that I had not seen yet. It is flowering purple. The stems/leaves made me believe they were a weed, and by the way that they grew in this open area. I searched for a very long time to try and find this species but came up with nothing. Another close-up picture is posted below. If anyone knows what it is please let me know, just for my own piece of mind! Thanks!
Next, I saw a fleet of House Sparrows (Passer domesticus) fly by! They were very noisy and active. Here is the picture below!
This picture is obviously not very good, it is really hard to take pictures of birds. By the time I got my camera ready they were already in flight and pretty far away.
I was mainly birding on this journey through my site since I enjoy that the most. I was lucky enough to see a Golden-Crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia atricapilla). I love this bird. You are not able to see the yellow mid crown in this picture but you can see the shape of his body and how puffy he is.
He is surrounded by a bunch of greenery. His call was very sparse and sounded like a sharp "chink"sound.
Here is another species below that I have not seen in my site until now. Again, I am not very good with plant species so I had trouble Identifying it at first but I think I figured out what it was. I believe this is the Pacific Crabapple (Malus fusca). It looked to similar to this species for me to think it was something else. There is always a chance I could be wrong!
What surprises me the most throughout this whole journaling process is that I have never visited my site with either a fully charged phone or a fully charged camera. If I have one, it is usually on the brink of dying. So, my camera died half way through my visit. I did record the rest of the species down though and I will provide a picture from an outside source!
I was disappointed by the lack of mushrooms I found for week 8. I had it in my head that I was going to find at least 5+ mushrooms. Turns out, I think I only found two. Because I was disappointed, I made a mental note to keep an eye out for more mushrooms. I ended up finding one! It was a Turkey Tail Mushroom (Trametes versicolor). I used to see this mushrooms all the time when I was a kid and camping up in the Mount Baker area, I remember I used to be so intrigued by them because of their size and color!
I was upset when I saw this next species. I have actually seen them before at my site but never documented it (I don't know why). It is the Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus). I was so frustrated the last time I saw them because it came within 3 feet of me and the picture I took was so blurry you could not see anything. Naturally, whenever I come across this species I am dealing with some misfortune so it is a shame I do not have my own picture. Nevertheless, a picture is below. I saw a female. She is so pretty!
I have a few more plant species that I will post later on!
Looks like you are making progress! good job! Just make sure you reach 200 words per section which isnt too hard! Otherwise, I like your pictures and think the layout could be a little more clear, but hey its only a rough draft!
